Results of the investigation of health in Fatick area
The results of the analysis show that the area of Fatick is confronted with a catastrophic medical situation. It is an endemic territory for infectious diseases like the diarrheal paludism, tuberculosis or diseases and an area which presents too many cases of acute respiratory diseases. With that are added many cases of cholera (in 2005, 2382 cases were listed) and the chronic malnutrition are in great part of the population. The death rates maternal and infantile are high and are the medical demonstrations of poverty. Only 37.5% of the pregnant women have recourse to the antenatal consultations obligatory and only 15.6% of the childbirth are carried out by a qualified personnel in the area of Fatick. In addition, 46% of the children from 0 to 36 months are not medicaly followed. These figures attest of a weak use of the medical structures present.

Signature of an agreement between the polyclinic of Fadia and the mutual insurance company Wer Wërle
Wednesday May 16, 2007 was signed in the buildings of AcDev, an agreement between the polyclinic of AcDev located at the parcelles assainies street and the mutual insurance company Wer Wërle. The mutual insurance company Wer Wërle is an initiative of the program of the women in urban environment and rural (PROFEMUR). This association located at Southern Golf (Guediawaye) was creates in 1993 in collaboration with Oxfam Great Britain with an aim of promoting the statute of the senegalese woman by accessing to the credit, with the saving, the housing, the formation and information. The base of this movement is solidarity and the mutual aid. AcDev and the women of the PROFEMUR have common aspirations of development and the signature of the agreement between the mutual insurance company Wer Wërle and the polyclinic of Fadia will be able only to reinforce the access of most underprivileged to care of health quality. This instituted collaboration once again shows the dynamism of Senegalese association and the importance of the Community initiatives to mitigate the lacks at the medical and social level.
Zoom on the polyclinic of Fadia/ Guentaba
Inaugurated in December 2006, the polyclinic of Fadia/Guentaba located at the Cleansed Pieces is a structure created by AcDev in collaboration with the British Cooperation and the French ONG Equipop .
This polyclinic is a true success. It is equipped with all the modern equipment and a looking after personnel of quality officiates there permanently. AcDev, indeed, took care that all its employees are graduate of State and have necessary competences necessary to the installation of good services.
The polyclinic offers various services such as consultations of general medicine, care dental and gynaecological, nurses and a service of family planning. Recently, AcDev acquired a mammographe which will make it possible the structure to create a service of tracking of the breast cancer which is a true problem of public health in Senegal. Only a public structure has today such an apparatus and the consultations in the private cabinets are excessively expensive. Consequently, the polyclinic will give the possibility to a number of women of being made detect quickly and at a social cost.
The principal asset of the polyclinic rests on the fact that the buildings which accomodate it belong to ONG. Thus, the activities are autonomous and can be perennialized. The hired labour charges and of operation are covered by the payment of the consultations, necessary to the operation of such a structure of health.
The structure has a pharmacy on the spot making it possible to the patients to have access to their drugs. They are generic drugs and there still, at a very social price. Many patients attend the polyclinic today and are satisfied the services which are offered there. The structure start to be made known and fidelise its customers.
This structure filled a vacuum as regards health in the zone in which it is located and been able to only be pleased with its performances after a few months of existence. With the image of the polyclinic of Fadia, the medical structure which was created in Pikine by AcDev there is more than 10 years knows a very high rate of frequentation and gives access to the populations disadvantaged to care of health of quality. However, this polyclinic knows today problems as for vetusté of its buildings and the old age of its equipment. AcDev is in the search of financing in order to not lose the considerable assets and, thus, to not give up its patients.
When AcDev launches out in the creation of a mutual insurance company of health in Cambérène
AcDev continues its activity of creation of mutual insurance companies of health. The non-governmental organization makes today profit from its experience on the matter with an economic lobby of Cambérène (area of Dakar). The GIE of Cambérène, eager to set up a mutual insurance company of health call AcDev to support it in its step. Hhelped by a trainer specialist in public health, AcDev already met many times the group in order to sensitize it and to form it with the creation of a mutual insurance company of health. To create a mutual insurance company is not thing easy and it is necessary to have a certain number of competences to conclude this experience.
A protocol of action is setting up itself. A field survey will be carried out to know the methods of construction of the mutual insurance company and its chances to function on the long term. In effect, in the concern of perennializing all the activities which it undertakes, AcDev does not make the things with the light one. This is why, it makes a point of being ensured of the viability of the insurance company and of competences of those who will make it function before launching out completely in its creation.
AcDev still shows by supporting this group of Community initiative its support for the population sénégalaise and its serious.
The creation of mutual insurance companies of health is a very important activity in Senegal where the medical cover of most underprivileged is almost null. That makes it possible to pose the bases of a greater equality to health while allowing those which do not have the means of them being guarded financially against the disease risks.
